You probably already know the saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” Here are some great project ideas revolving around flowers that bloom in April.
Tulip Wreath
While you might think wreaths are only for winter, this project is great to add some color to your front door or window sill.
Time Needed: 45 minutes
What You’ll Need:
- 1 foam wreath, 14 in.
- 2 spools of satin ribbon in a color similar to the tulips, 1.5 in. wide
- 10 bunches of tulips
- Twine
- Hot glue gun
- Floral/wire cutters
Instructions:
- Use floral or wire cutters to cut the tulips away from their base.
- Move all greenery up towards the top of each stem, near the base of the flowers. You will want to keep some of the stem.
- Hot glue the starting point of your satin ribbon to the wreath.
- Take two or three tulips inside of the ribbon. Tuck them in tight near where the greenery connects to the stem. It’s ok for the ribbon to overlap towards the center of the wreath, but it should just barely overlap on the outer edge.
- Repeat Step 4 until you reach where you started placing ribbon.
- Once you’re finished wrapping ribbon, slip a string loop in of twine so it can hang easily. Apply hot glue so it is secure.
- Hang your wreath wherever you’d like!
Paper Plate Sunflower
Looking for an easy craft to do with your toddler or young child? Celebrate the sunflower with this craft.
Time Needed: 20 minutes
What You’ll Need:
- Paper plate
- Yellow paint
- Brown paint
- Glue
- Coffee beans
- Corn kernels
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Paint the outer rim of your paper plate with your yellow and brown paints. Feel free to paint over certain areas more to color blend.
- Paint the center of the paper plate brown.
- Apply glue to the area painted brown. Add coffee beans and corn kernels to the center.
- Cut slits around the plate to create the sunflower petals.
Rose Petal Butterfly Greeting Cards
This is a great idea for those of you looking to get a head start on Mother’s Day ideas. Rather than going to a store and purchasing a card, you can create a beautiful rose butterfly.
Time Needed: 15 minutes
What You’ll Need:
- 2 rose petals
- Blank cards
- Black marker
- Glue
Instructions:
- Purchase blank cards. If you want, you can create the inside of your card using a service like Canva.
- On the outside of your card, use the black marker to draw the antennae of the butterfly.
- Dry the rose petals in wax paper and press them using a book or other heavy object. Be careful when applying pressure as you don’t want the rose petal to wither.
- Apply the rose petals on each side using a little glue. These will give the butterfly its wings!
