How to Defeat the Hump Day Slump

Woman excited it is hump day

Employees tend to have mixed feelings about Wednesdays. According to the Robert Half Staffing Agency, productivity tanks from Tuesday to Wednesday by approximately 15 to 20 percent. If you find that the second half of the week isn’t as productive as the first, grab a caffeinated beverage and follow some of the advice below.

1) Look Back at Your Work-Life Balance

If your schedule allows, try to make Wednesday a night to just relax. Take your significant other out on a date night, or try to enjoy some time with your family. If you can’t, you can try to make Tuesday or Thursday your off night.

2) Review What’s on Your Plate

Is there a smaller task from Monday or Tuesday that you missed? If you notice that your focus isn’t quite there, Wednesday afternoon is a great time to complete these types of tasks.

3) Look at the Glass Half Full

Friday is getting closer and closer! Go out to lunch today. Maybe you can take some time to get to know a coworker better and see what you could work on together. You can also discuss any challenges you’re facing with your work, and still have enough time to make changes to get that task off your plate before Friday hits.

4) Just Breathe

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed this week, take a few minutes to relax and breathe. Use the halfway point in the week to actually take a lunch break and get out of the office for a little while. According to Health.com, office workers who take breaks are also less likely to suffer from back pain. Consider this a win-win.
