How to Keep Up When Working from Home

For those of you who work from home, you may find various distractions to prevent you from focusing on your tasks. Whether it’s a pile of dirty dishes or loads of laundry, what’s around you may sometimes distract you. If you find that you struggle structuring your workday, here are a few things you can do to keep up with coworkers in the office.

Get Social

Set aside times to talk with your team and manager about how you’re doing with your work, and where you might be struggling. With services such as Skype or Google Hangouts, it can be very easy to conduct check-ins and stay in touch with your coworkers throughout the day. This can also help you talk through problems you may encounter while working on an assignment.

Stick to a Regimented Schedule

If your employer sets regimented hours, try your best to stick to them. Give yourself allotted times to work on projects. This will allow you to address any issues and ask questions, since your coworkers and/or clients will also be working regular business hours.

Shower and Change Before You Start Working

If you don’t already, try doing this before you start your workday. While you don’t have to dress as formally as you would if you worked in an office, at least putting on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans will help you get into a work mindset.

Give Yourself a Break

Since you’re not working with others, you may not take as many breaks as you would in an office setting. Set yourself an allotted time to stretch or go for a brief walk. This can help you boost productivity.
